FIFA World Cup 2026: Results, schedule and key dates from all 104 matches
The 2026 FIFA World Cup the first to be hosted by three countries and the first with 48 teams is under way. The expanded tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026 and will feature a record 104 matches played over 39 days.
New format and how teams advance
The tournament uses a 12-group format with four teams in each group. The top two teams from each group, together with the eight best third-placed sides, advance to a newly introduced Round of 32. From that stage the competition progresses through the Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
