Gauteng weekend weather: Thunderstorms before sunshine returns

Published

on

Gauteng is in for a mixed weekend, with thunderstorms forecast across Johannesburg and Pretoria before the province dries out and temperatures climb again.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) is forecasting stormy conditions on Friday and Saturday, followed by partly cloudy skies on Sunday and mostly sunny weather from Monday.

Temperatures will remain warm throughout, with Pretoria expected to reach the low 30s over the weekend.

Friday brings thunderstorms to Gauteng

Residents in Johannesburg and Pretoria should prepare for a stormy start to the weekend on Friday, 9 October.

Saws has forecast thunderstorms for Johannesburg, Pretoria North and Pretoria/Tshwane.

Johannesburg is expected to record a minimum of 15°C and a maximum of 31°C.

Pretoria will be warmer, with both Pretoria North and Pretoria/Tshwane forecast to range between 17°C and 33°C.

The combination of warm temperatures and thunderstorms could make for unsettled conditions, particularly later in the day.

More storms expected on Saturday

The stormy conditions are expected to continue into Saturday.

Johannesburg is forecast to reach a low of 18°C and a high of 30°C.

Pretoria North and Pretoria/Tshwane are expected to remain hotter, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 33°C.

For anyone making outdoor plans, Saturday’s forecast is worth keeping in mind, particularly if you’re planning to spend a long period outside.

Sunday starts to clear up

By Sunday, 11 October, Gauteng’s weather is expected to become more settled.

Saws is forecasting partly cloudy conditions across the province, with temperatures remaining warm.

Johannesburg is expected to range from 19°C to 30°C, while Pretoria North and Pretoria/Tshwane could reach highs of around 32°C.

The change in conditions could make Sunday a better option for outdoor plans, although residents should still check the latest forecast before heading out.

Sunshine returns next week

The weather is expected to settle further on Monday, 12 October, with sunny conditions forecast across Gauteng.

Johannesburg is expected to reach 30°C, with a minimum of 19°C.

Pretoria is forecast to be slightly warmer, ranging from 20°C to 32°C.

Sunny conditions are also expected on Tuesday, 13 October.

Johannesburg could see temperatures between 18°C and 30°C, while Pretoria North and Pretoria/Tshwane are forecast to range from 19°C to 32°C.
