Madlanga Commission summons Maj-Gen Feroz Khan to testify on July 1

The Madlanga Commission has ordered Major-General Feroz Khan to appear and give evidence on July 1, 2026. The inquiry has reserved several days for his testimony and says he will remain before the commission until excused by Chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

Why Khan has been summoned

The commission says material on electronic devices seized from Khan is central to its investigation. The devices were seized on May 10, and the commission issued a Regulation 10(6) notice authorising the South African Police Service (SAPS) to provide access to the devices.

Legal challenge withdrawn

On June 3 Khan approached the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg seeking an urgent interdict to prevent the commission, SAPS and others from dealing with the devices or accessing any data stored on them. The commission filed a detailed affidavit on June 6 explaining why the material was necessary for its work.

The commission also said Khan sought court proceedings in camera and to prevent public access to affidavits filed in the matter. On Monday morning Khan abandoned his application to have the matter heard in camera and withdrew his urgent application against the commission.

Next steps in court and at the inquiry

A case management meeting was held before Acting Deputy Judge President Lebogang Modiba. The withdrawal of the applications is expected to be formalised through a court order. The commission said that once the order is issued, its affidavits will be made available to the media and the public.

Scheduling and testimony

The Madlanga Commission has reserved several days beginning July 1, 2026 for Khan’s testimony. It has indicated he will remain before the inquiry for as long as necessary until excused by the chair.
