Madlanga Commission hears Khan evidence behind closed doors

Madlanga Commission testimony on Major-General Feroz Khan will continue ‘behind closed doors’, after the inquiry said parts of the evidence must be heard in camera because of the sensitive nature of the hearing.

Over two days, the commission has heard evidence about Khan’s role in procurement processes and his reported relationship with tobacco businessman Mohammed ‘Mo’ Sayed.

Reports say WhatsApp exchanges have become central to the inquiry, with evidence leaders using the messages to trace alleged interference in SAPS procurement and possible attempts to shield key players from scrutiny.

The inquiry is also examining claims that journalists were threatened and intimidated as the corruption probe widened.

Evidence leaders have framed the matter as part of a broader case involving abuse of office, undue influence and possible capture of policing structures, with the commission continuing to test links between police officials, business figures and the wider network under investigation.

The latest testimony follows earlier reporting that Khan alleged sensitive information from his seized electronic devices had been unlawfully leaked, raising concerns about the exposure of confidential intelligence operations and informants.
