National yoghurt recall over stomach upset risk

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has alerted South Africans to a nationwide recall of selected yoghurt products after a production fault was found that could cause stomach upset if consumed.

According to the NCC, SPAR has voluntarily recalled selected Fat Free, Low Fat, Double Cream, Indulge Double Cream and Active Drinking Yoghurt products sold nationally from 15 June 2026.

The affected products have a sell-by date of 9 August 2026 and a use-by date of 12 August 2026.

SPAR informed the commission that a machine malfunction during production caused some products to ‘blow’, which may alter their taste, smell and appearance. The NCC warned that consuming the affected products may result in stomach upset.

Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged not to consume them. Instead, they should return them to their nearest SPAR store for a full refund or exchange. The NCC also encouraged consumers to respond promptly to product safety recalls to reduce potential health risks.
