Three arrested after R1m rock cocaine haul seized at Kingsburgh holiday apartment

Three suspects were arrested after police recovered rock cocaine with an estimated street value of more than R1 million during an intelligence-driven raid on a holiday resort apartment in Kingsburgh, Amanzimtoti.

Operation and arrests

The arrests took place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit. The three suspects, aged between 20 and 34, were taken into custody and charged with dealing in drugs.

What police found

Police searched the apartment after identifying the unit where the suspects were believed to be staying. Officers said they found the suspects packaging drugs and recovered rock cocaine with an estimated street value of more than R1 million, along with two sealing machines and a scale.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza described the operation and the allegations against the suspects. He said the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit had acted on intelligence that the three suspects had booked the apartment and were “processing, packaging and selling rock cocaine from the apartment.”

Magwaza said officers had identified the apartment and “tactically approached the unit.” He said they “knocked and announced themselves as police officers” before entering and finding the suspects packaging drugs. One suspect attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended, Magwaza added.

The three suspects were expected to appear in the Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
