Police in Tshwane intercepted three suspects and seized weapons after an intelligence-led operation disrupted an alleged kidnapping plot targeting a Rosslyn businessman.

Intelligence-led operation stops plot

Police said Crime Intelligence Gauteng received information about a planned kidnapping involving a businessman who operates several businesses in the Rosslyn area. SAPS members from Soshanguve and Akasia acted on the verified intelligence and co-ordinated an operation that intercepted three suspects on Sunday morning.

Arrests and seizures

Three men, aged between 29 and 31, were arrested during the operation. Officers recovered two unlicensed firearms with serial numbers filed off and seized a vehicle that was allegedly intended to be used in the commission of the kidnapping.

Police statement and possible charges

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said:

“An intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of three suspects who were allegedly on their way to execute a planned kidnapping of a businessman operating several businesses in the Rosslyn area.”

Sibeko said the swift action prevented what could have been a serious crime and that the recovery of the firearms is expected to form a significant part of the investigation.

The suspects are expected to face charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Sibeko said additional charges may be added as the investigation progresses. Police have not released further details regarding the intended victim or the circumstances surrounding the alleged plot, citing ongoing investigations.

Investigation continues

Police said they will continue to determine whether the seized weapons may be linked to other criminal activities. The operation was described by authorities as intelligence-driven and coordinated between Crime Intelligence and operational units.
