Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal Marshalltown Fire Incident

A significant development has unfolded as Gauteng police made an arrest connected to the Marshalltown fire. Per Jacaranda FM, they apprehended a 29-year-old man linked to the tragic incident that resulted in the loss of more than 70 lives and displaced over 100 individuals in August of the previous year.

The arrest transpired on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the suspect, while testifying under oath at the Usindiso Commission of Inquiry investigating the cause and liability of the August 2023 fire, admitted to setting the uSindiso building ablaze.

The individual will appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon. Authorities have indicated that the man will be confronting charges that include 76 counts of murder and 120 counts of attempted murder in connection to the devastating incident.
