R3 million crystal meth haul seized in Diepsloot; 35-year-old arrested

Gauteng police seized about 10kg of suspected crystal meth with an estimated street value of R3 million and arrested a 35-year-old man during an intelligence‑driven operation in Diepsloot on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

Operation led by Counter Narcotics units

The arrest followed an operation carried out by the Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team and West Rand K9. Officers acted on information that two men were dealing in drugs at a Diepsloot address.

Drugs hidden under mattress

During a search of the premises, officers discovered a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress containing suspected crystal meth weighing about 10kg. Police estimated the street value of the find at approximately R3 million.

Suspect in custody and court appearance

A 35-year-old man who was found on the scene was arrested for possession of drugs. He is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 01 June 2026.

Police response

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi described the seizure as a result of relentless efforts to remove drugs from the streets.

“The place was identified and upon searching the premises, the team found a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress containing suspected crystal meth drugs weighing about 10kg with an estimated street value of approximately R3 million,”

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrest and applauded the team for their dedication.

“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,”
