expired SASSA card beneficiaries can receive their grants through alternative means if they choose not to renew their cards

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has stated that expired SASSA card beneficiaries can receive their grants through alternative means if they choose not to renew their cards. Thousands of individuals have visited post offices nationwide to renew their gold SASSA cards. To avoid this process, the agency has encouraged beneficiaries to apply for grants to be paid into their personal bank accounts or use Shoprite’s free Money Market Account, according to reports by Eyewitness News.

SASSA has also informed recipients that post offices will operate for longer hours to assist with card renewals. However, according to SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi, the agency has ensured that queues move efficiently, particularly for the elderly, and that staff members are available during weekends.
