SASSA June payments start 2 June – what older grant recipients need to know
The South African reports that SASSA will begin the June 2026 payment cycle for older persons on Tuesday, 2 June. Older grant recipients are scheduled to receive the Old Age Grant and the Grant-in-Aid at the start of the payment cycle.
When and how payments will be available
According to the source, beneficiaries with SASSA Visa cards can access their funds at any SASSA-approved merchant, post office, or ATM from Tuesday morning. Bank account holders with a linked grant will also have deposits processed from the same date.
Safety advice for payment day
SASSA and community safety organisations advise older grant recipients to take precautions on payment days. Recommendations include going to collection points with a trusted family member, avoiding carrying large amounts of cash, and staying alert to strangers offering unsolicited help at ATMs.
Reporting suspicious activity to store security or local law enforcement is emphasised as important for personal safety.
e-Life certification reminder
Older grant recipients are affected by the annual life certification requirement. The source says SASSA has introduced the e-Life Certification platform to reduce the need for in-person visits to a SASSA branch. The platform uses biometric verification through the eKYC system and is available via the Online Services Portal. Completing certification online before collecting this month’s payment will help prevent disruption to future grant payments.
Survey invitation
According to The South African, if you receive a SASSA grant and want to share your story, you can take part in The South African’s survey and stand a chance to win R2 000. The publication says responses help them tell the stories that matter.
