Security officer fighting for life after Durban CBD shooting

A security officer in his forties was critically wounded in a shooting in Durban CBD on 30 July 2026. Paramedics rushed him to hospital; SAPS are investigating.

A security officer is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times in the Durban central business district on the evening of 30 July 2026.

What happened

The shooting occurred just before 7pm on Thursday, 30 July 2026, on Avondale Road before Argyle Road in the Durban CBD. Emergency services responded after receiving multiple calls for medical assistance, according to Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics.

Emergency response

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived to find SAPS and security officials in attendance and were shown to a critically injured officer. Jamieson said the officer, believed to be in his forties, had been shot multiple times by unknown men.

Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on scene before rushing him through to a nearby Hospital for the urgent care that he required,” Jamieson said.

Investigation

Jamieson added that the events leading up to the shooting are unknown. SAPS were at the scene and would be investigating further, ALS Paramedics said.
