Ten learners injured after scholar transport leaves road and hits embankment in KZN

Ten children were injured when a scholar transport left the road and came to rest on a roadside embankment on Fannin Road in the Wyebank area outside of Pinetown, emergency services said.

What happened

The incident occurred just before 7am on Monday morning. Paramedics from ALS Paramedics attended the scene and found that a single vehicle carrying pupils had left the roadway and was resting on a bank.

Injuries and emergency response

Medical teams discovered multiple injured children at the scene. Once stabilised, the pupils were transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Investigation

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the events leading up to the crash are unknown.

“A total of ten children had sustained various injuries, and once stabilised on the scene, the children were transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required,” Jamieson said.

The South African Police Service were in attendance and are investigating the cause of the accident, authorities said.
