Woman arrested after alleged assault on police officer at Brooklyn station
A 33-year-old woman is expected to appear in court after allegedly assaulting a police officer at Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria over a request to have an affidavit commissioned.
The incident reportedly happened on Thursday night after the woman was told that an affidavit she had already signed could not be commissioned under the prescribed procedure.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that the woman was arrested but released on a warning later that evening.
Reports from several media outlets have identified the woman as an alleged EFF member of Parliament. However, police have not publicly disclosed her identity, and the claim has not been independently verified.
What allegedly happened at Brooklyn Police Station?
According to Nevhuhulwi, preliminary information indicates that the woman approached the station to have an affidavit commissioned after it had already been signed.
She was reportedly informed that an affidavit must be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths.
“The woman allegedly became dissatisfied with the explanation, resulting in a commotion during which she allegedly assaulted a police officer,” Nevhuhulwi said.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault have not been detailed further.
Woman expected in court next week
Police said the woman is expected to appear before the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court on 12 October 2026.
She was released on a warning on the night of her arrest. The allegations have not been tested in court, and she remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The woman’s identity and the reported link to the EFF remain unconfirmed.
