McLaren Focuses on Constructors’ Championship After Brazilian GP

Published

on

After the recent Brazilian Grand Prix, McLaren has made it clear that winning the Formula One constructors’ title is their top priority. Despite Lando Norris’s diminishing chances for the drivers’ championship, team principal Andrea Stella confirmed the shift in focus toward the constructors’ title. They aim to extend their lead over Ferrari.

McLaren’s Position After Brazil

Lando Norris started the race on pole but finished in sixth place. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, delivered an exceptional performance, winning after starting from 17th on the grid. Norris now trails Verstappen by 62 points. With three races left in the season, there are still 86 points available. Verstappen could secure his fourth consecutive title in Las Vegas later this month.

Despite Norris’s challenges, McLaren increased their lead over Ferrari to 36 points in the constructors’ standings. Stella stated, “The constructors’ championship was always our priority, so this doesn’t change anything.”

The Race Dynamics

Many consider Max Verstappen’s race one of the greatest in Formula One history. However, Norris noted that luck played a part in Verstappen’s success. He said, “He drove well; he got a bit lucky.” Verstappen took advantage of several opportunities, including a red flag that allowed him a free tire change.

Stella addressed the difficulties Norris encountered during the race, attributing them to car issues rather than driver mistakes. He explained, “When we lock the tires with a car like we have today, I am not looking at the driver. I am looking at why the car keeps locking the front tires in these conditions.”

Looking Ahead

As the season nears its end, McLaren aims to optimize performance to secure the constructors’ championship. Every point counts as they work to build their lead over Ferrari.

Verstappen’s win adds to his impressive record and challenges historical norms in Formula One. His ability to win from such a low starting position highlights his skill. As the competition heats up, McLaren is determined to perform their best in the remaining races.

McLaren’s commitment to the constructors’ championship is evident. With a strong team and strategic focus, they are well-positioned to continue their upward trajectory in the standings. Fans eagerly await the outcome as the final races approach
