Ramaphosa Urges SA Businesses to Lead Africa’s Industrial Transformation

Published

on

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South African businesses to take a bold, leading role in driving industrial transformation across the African continent.

In his weekly letter to the nation, the President emphasized that South Africa must seize the current shifts in the global economy to reposition itself through an Africa-focused trade and investment strategy.

“South African business must be at the forefront of the transformation of African industry,” Ramaphosa said.

The President is currently attending the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where South Africa is actively showcasing its strengths as a top investment and trade destination on the continent.

A Changing Global Landscape, A Continental Opportunity

Ramaphosa noted that ongoing changes in the global economy offer a rare opening for African countries to craft policies that prioritize intra-African trade and industrialization.

He highlighted the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a crucial platform for this transformation, adding that harmonizing regulations and opening new markets will be key.

“We must continue to explore new markets and deepen economic ties within the continent, even as AfCFTA processes unfold,” he stated. *digitisDigital marketing for your business

Time for South African Business to Step Up

According to the President, the time has come for local businesses not just to expand across Africa but to help shape the continent’s economic future.

He called on South African firms to lead with innovation and investment in sectors such as:

  • Mining

  • Agriculture

  • Manufacturing

  • Financial and professional services

  • Information technology

Equally important, he said, is making the case for African firms to invest in South Africa, tapping into its world-class infrastructure and diverse economic base.

A Vision of Shared Growth

Ramaphosa’s message comes as South Africa looks to reset its economic trajectory post-pandemic and amid a tough global investment climate. His call aligns with broader goals of African economic integration, industrialization, and sustainable development.

He emphasized that African-led growth must be underpinned by strong regional partnerships and businesses that are agile, ambitious, and future-focused.

“We must work together to build an integrated, thriving Africa that creates jobs, adds value to our resources, and drives inclusive growth,” Ramaphosa concluded.
