Several neighbourhoods in Region B of Johannesburg are bracing for water outages this weekend as Joburg Water carries out emergency infrastructure repairs.

The utility announced that a critical water interruption began at 6:00 AM on Friday, 16 May, and will continue until midnight on Saturday, 17 May. The work involves the repair of a 375mm steel pipe, requiring a complete shutdown of water supply in several areas.

Which areas are affected?

The following suburbs will be impacted by the emergency outage in Region B:

  • All streets in Vandia Grove

  • Beverley Gardens

  • Bryanston

  • Parts of Ferndale

  • Osummit

  • Bryanbrink

  • Sections of Kensington B

Joburg Water said alternative water supply arrangements are being finalised, and updates will be shared directly with residents through official channels.

“These urgent repairs are necessary to ensure improved water service delivery in the long term,” the utility said in its daily supply update.

Planned Outages in Region C Next Week

In addition to the emergency maintenance in Region B, Joburg Water will conduct scheduled maintenance in Region C next week.

On Thursday, 22 May, residents in Olievenpoort Extension 40 will experience a shorter water interruption between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This outage will affect properties along:

  • Northgate Street

  • Valley Road

The work involves connecting a new 150mm pipeline to the existing main line. However, no alternative water supply will be provided for this planned outage.
