DA Leads in Fundraising for 2025/2026 Local Government Election
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is leading in election fundraising, securing R32,229,474.29 ahead of the 2025/2026 local government elections, according to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
Under the Political Party Funding Act, all parties and independent candidates must declare donations above R200,000, with a maximum cap of R30 million per donor.
Major Contributions to the DA
The DA’s campaign war chest is dominated by donations linked to Michiel Le Roux, founder of Capitec Bank:

Political Funding Trends
The IEC report shows a significant rise in declared political funding:

The IEC expects this upward trend to continue as the election draws closer.
When Will the Election Take Place?
The IEC has not yet confirmed a date for the next local government election, but legislation requires it to be held between 1 November 2025 and 31 January 2026.
