Kanye West’s Johannesburg Concert: Ticket Prices, Dates, and Concerns Explained

Ye heads to Ellis Park
Kanye West, now known simply as Ye, is officially bringing his global presence to Johannesburg for a one-day concert at Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday, 13 December. The event is being staged by local promoter Monyake Group and has already ignited a wave of excitement among fans eager to see the Grammy-winning artist live.
TicketPro opened pre-sale access this week, with prices starting at R850 and climbing to nearly R4 900 for premium seating. The pre-sale process required fans to register in advance to receive a code by email, which could then be used to secure tickets. This early window, however, only lasts until 9 pm on the day of release.
Why fans are wary
Despite the buzz, there is a degree of caution in the air. Concert-goers in South Africa have become sceptical after a string of recent disappointments. Burna Boy’s show, initially billed for FNB Stadium last year, collapsed under the weight of legal complications before it could even begin. Around the same time, British boy band Blue cancelled their scheduled tour, leaving fans still waiting for refunds as the company behind it entered liquidation.
With those memories still fresh, some music lovers are approaching Ye’s concert with hesitation, questioning whether lesser-known promoters can deliver such a high-profile international act without complications.
The organisers’ vision
For its part, Monyake Group insists it has the credentials to stage the performance. The company has previously been rooted in gospel and faith-based live events and believes this background uniquely positions it to handle a show of this scale. Speaking to Independent Media Lifestyle, the group explained that Ye’s evolution as an artist aligns with their mission to create “culturally relevant and spiritually healthy experiences” that can captivate audiences in stadium settings.
A second chance at a Joburg show
This will not be Ye’s first attempt at performing in the city. He was originally scheduled to appear at FNB Stadium on 23 September, but the concert was postponed due to pending legal proceedings and then eventually cancelled. For die-hard fans, Ellis Park in December now represents a long-awaited second chance.
The bigger picture
The concert marks not only one of Johannesburg’s most anticipated musical events of the year but also a test of trust between South African audiences and event organisers. With ticket prices running into the thousands, locals are eager for reassurance that this time their investment will pay off in the form of a world-class show.
