Tyla’s Lagos date removed from A*POP World Tour after boycott call over xenophobia silence

Tyla’s scheduled Lagos performance has been removed from her official “A*POP World Tour” listing after a public call for a boycott by Nigerian content creator Solomon Buchi, who criticised the singer for not addressing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

What changed on the tour schedule

News outlet African Folder reported that the Nigerian date no longer appears on Tyla’s official tour schedule. No official reason has been given for the removal and Tyla and her team have not publicly commented on the reported change.

Boycott call and its reasoning

Solomon Buchi urged Nigerians not to support the show, saying the performance “must not happen” and framing the call as a collective stand. In a video shared on Instagram he said:

“That show must not happen. This is the one time we have to come together and stand for something,”

Buchi linked his call to South Africa’s history of xenophobic violence, citing past major outbreaks in 2008, 2015 and 2019. He expressed disappointment that Tyla had not publicly addressed those attacks, saying:

“Not after the xenophobia attacks that we saw in South Africa and how immigrants, especially Nigerian immigrants, were treated. Not one word from Tyla,”

and added:

“It’s not about Tyla. I have no beef with her. It’s about coming together as people and saying, ‘No, we have a voice, and that voice matters,'”

The development prompted mixed responses online. Some users supported Buchi’s call, while others argued artists should not be held responsible for wider social and political issues. One user commented:
