SASSA confirms May 2026 SRD payment dates and what beneficiaries must know
What SASSA has announced for the May 2026 SRD payment
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the payment schedule for the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for May 2026. SRD payments will be processed in two batches: 21 to 22 May and 27 to 28 May 2026.
Payment amount and why payments are staggered
The SRD grant remains R370 per month, with no change to the value of the benefit during the current financial period. SASSA said the staggered payment approach is used to manage the large volume of beneficiaries and to allow for ongoing verification of applications before funds are released.
New self-service channel
SASSA has highlighted the introduction of a WhatsApp self-service channel for SRD beneficiaries. The service allows applicants to access key information and services without visiting offices or calling the SASSA call centre, with updates provided through an automated system.
Official communications and advice to beneficiaries
SASSA continues to encourage beneficiaries to rely on official communication channels for accurate information regarding their grants and payment processes.
Broader social grant schedule for June 2026
SASSA also confirmed the broader social grant payment cycle for June 2026, which is set to begin in the first week of the month. According to the agency, the schedule is:
- Older Person’s Grants: 2 June 2026
- Disability Grants: 3 June 2026
- Children’s and remaining linked grants: 4 June 2026
Current social grant values
Social grants remain at the increased levels introduced in April 2026. The confirmed amounts are:
- Older Persons Grant: R2,400
- Disability Grant: R2,400
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,400
- War Veterans Grant: R2,420
- Foster Child Grant: R1,290
- Child Support Grant: R580
Beneficiaries awaiting SRD payments in May 2026 should expect disbursement across the two scheduled batches and are advised to use SASSA’s WhatsApp channel or other official platforms for updates.
