Limpopo police arrest man linked to June house robbery, rape and carjacking
Limpopo police have arrested a 34-year-old man believed to be connected to a house robbery, a rape and a carjacking that occurred at Mavambe Kingsview village in June 2026. The arrest was made during an intelligence-driven joint operation in the Sibasa area on Wednesday.
How the arrest unfolded
Detectives from Thohoyandou and Malamulele followed information about the suspect’s whereabouts to a hideout in Mphego village in the Thohoyandou policing area. Officers found the suspect at the premises and arrested him without incident, Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
Earlier breakthrough in the investigation
On June 19, 2026, a separate joint operation by detectives from Thohoyandou, Giyani and Malamulele led to the arrest of a 27-year-old at Mavambe village. Police said he was found in possession of property linked to the Mavambe Kingsview robbery, while three other suspects evaded arrest at that time.
Police recovered a range of suspected stolen property during that operation. A white Volkswagen Polo that had been hijacked during the incident was later recovered abandoned at Mavambe village. Investigators also searched properties in Maniini and Ha Mphego villages to locate the remaining suspects; no arrests were made during those searches, but additional suspected stolen items were seized.
Items recovered
Colonel Ledwaba listed items recovered during the earlier arrest and searches. In his statement, he said:
“A substantial amount of stolen property was recovered during his arrest. Items seized included one Redbat pink school bag, maroon tekkies, Redbat sandals, one Hybrid solar inverter, one Svect solar inverter, one Huawei device, an identity document, driver’s licence, two tyres, one plasma TV, and a gold Toyota Etios motor vehicle with four tyres, spare wheel, radio and Sabat battery,” Ledwaba said.
Next steps
The 34-year-old suspect was expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of house robbery, rape and carjacking. Police investigations are continuing, and efforts to trace the remaining suspects are ongoing, Ledwaba said.
