Grammy-winning singer Tyla has added two surprise collaborators to her upcoming album. According to IOL, MaWhoo and Babalwa M have been confirmed as features on A*POP, joining previously announced collaborator Zara Larsson.

Who appears on the record

According to IOL, MaWhoo appears on the track “Crazy Of Me”, while Babalwa M is featured on “I Don’t Care.”

Hints and reactions

MaWhoo had previously suggested a collaboration was in the works during an interview on YFM.

“So I did a song with Tyla as well, it’s actually an amazing song and I’m excited,”

she told the station, adding that fans should not expect the obvious and describing the track as more mellow and laid-back.

What Tyla says about the album

According to IOL, Tyla has described A*POP as a new chapter in her music and personal growth. She told IOL that listeners will hear much more of her voice throughout the album. In a separate interview quoted by IOL, Tyla said her first album honoured her African roots and that with A*POP she wanted to honour those roots while also showing musical influences she grew up with.

Genre and expectation

The two new features artists associated with South Africa’s distinctive sounds add to the sense that A*POP will cross genre lines. Social-media reaction noted curiosity about how Tyla’s popiano-infused R&B will blend with MaWhoo’s and Babalwa M’s vocal styles.

Looking ahead

With MaWhoo and Babalwa M joining Zara Larsson on the feature list, A*POP now includes a mix of collaborators that, according to IOL, signals Tyla’s continued interest in blending genres and showcasing South African talent on a global stage.
