According to IOL, reports indicate that the King paid a lobola of 70 cattle and presented the family with additional gifts as part of the ceremony. The visit was accompanied by a delegation of senior royal officials.

Mdhluli shares the celebrations on Instagram

Mdhluli marked the milestone on Instagram, sharing a carousel of photographs from both the lobola negotiations and the umembeso ceremony, according to IOL. She captioned the post: “18/07/2026 🐄.”

Regal dress and symbolic crown

According to IOL, Mdhluli wore a royal blue Swati traditional dress with black and gold detailing for the occasion. IOL reports she completed the look with a ligwalagwala crown made from the feathers of the purple-crested turaco bird, described as a royal national emblem of the Swati nation traditionally reserved for members of the royal family.

According to IOL, Princess Mdhluli is from the Mawewe Traditional Council in Mpumalanga, where her mother, Inkosi Khulile Mkhwatshwa, serves as a traditional leader. IOL also reports that she is understood to have already taken up residence at the Mashobeni Royal Palace in Pongola, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

According to IOL, the couple’s royal wedding is expected to take place later this year.
