Watch: Bryanston pipe burst has motorists lining for free car wash
A Bryanston pipe burst has turned into an impromptu car wash, with motorists lining up to drive through the gushing water.
Footage shared on TikTok by @luciddeejay shows cars and taxis waiting their turn as water sprays from the road in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
The clip, posted on 27 August, has sparked plenty of amusement online, with viewers joking about South Africans finding an opportunity wherever they can. One comment on the video asked: ‘What kind of adults are we? 😂’ Another viewer joked about the unexpected service, writing: ‘Free car wash just opened in Bryanston.’
Motorists make the most of the roadside spray
The footage shows several vehicles slowly approaching the burst before driving through the water, giving their cars an impromptu rinse.
The video has since been picked up by local media, with Briefly News reporting that motorists appeared to take turns using the water to clean their vehicles. The publication noted that it could not independently verify the cause of the pipe burst at the time of reporting.
Bryanston has experienced repeated water infrastructure problems this year. The Sandton Chronicle reported in June that Johannesburg Water had recorded 217 pipe bursts and repair incidents in the area since April.
