Internationally acclaimed New Zealand soul artist TEEKS made his Johannesburg debut at Park Live Jozi, closing a three-city South African tour that began in Cape Town and included Durban, according to IOL.

Home crowd sings along

According to IOL, South Africa is TEEKS’ biggest market, and the Park Live crowd proved it by singing his songs back to him word for word. The audience provided what the report called “perfect backup singers,” leaving the artist visibly moved.

Setlist and new material

IOL reports TEEKS performed fan favourites including “Oil and Water”, “Through It All”, “If Only” and “Remember Me”. He also introduced new material, performing the song “Boy”, and closed his set with the viral hit “First Time”.

Artist reaction

During his performance, TEEKS spoke to the crowd about his experience in the country. IOL quotes him as saying:

“It’s a pleasure to be here with you tonight. It’s my first time in South Africa. It’s my first time performing in Johannesburg. I want to tell you, man, since the moment we landed in South Africa, the people here have been so beautiful, so warm, so kind, so generous. I feel at home.”

Supporting acts at Park Live Jozi

According to IOL, TEEKS was not the only artist to captivate the Park Live crowd. Award-winning songstress Elaine performed earlier in the show, delivering hits including “Shining Star” and “Risky”, plus her new song “One More Time”, and ending her set with “You’re The One”.

IOL also lists other artists on the Park Live Jozi lineup: Rowlene, Nasty C, Will Linley, Matthew Mole and Giod Neighbours.
