Woman’s body discovered at Moroka Dam in Soweto

A woman believed to be in her twenties has been found wrapped in a duvet at Moroka Dam in Soweto, with police now investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, reports Joburg Etc. The discovery was made at about 5pm on Sunday, 20 September.

According to SAPS the woman has not yet been identified. Gauteng police have registered an inquest docket and are appealing to the public for information that could help investigators establish what happened.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the case to, saying: ‘The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage,’ Daily Sun reports.

Moroka Dam forms part of Thokoza Park in Rockville, a well-used community space known for its lawns, walkways, family picnics and public events, according to Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo.

The discovery comes as Gauteng police separately investigate the deaths of nine women whose bodies were found in Ekurhuleni since July. Police have not indicated that the Moroka case is connected to those investigations, making it important to keep the cases separate while investigators establish the facts.
