ActionSA has won 54 wards nationally so far, with 24 taken directly from the ANC, party president Herman Mashaba announced following the local government elections, Joburg Etc reports.

Addressing supporters in Soweto, Mashaba declared: ‘ACTIONSA IS COMING FOR 50% OF SOWETO!’ He said the party’s councillor candidates had reported strong momentum on the ground, adding: ‘Residents are waking up to the reality that ActionSA offers a viable alternative to the political status quo,’ and that ‘the Unfinished Business will be COMPLETED.’

On coalitions, at Midrand Roc, an ActionSA mayoral candidate said the party was open to negotiating with any party, ‘Yes, that means the ANC. Yes, that means the DA, the EFF, MK, Freedom Front Plus, ACDP.’ However, any arrangement would depend on ‘a programmatic level of commitment to delivering services to all South Africans,’ a ‘program to fight corruption,’ stability to end ‘the revolving doors of mayors’ seen across Gauteng, and action on ‘illegal immigration.’

Coalition conditions:

  • Service delivery: A programmatic commitment to delivering services to all South Africans, ‘not just the lucky few’
  • Corruption: A program to fight corruption
  • Stability: An end to ‘the revolving doors of mayors’ seen across Gauteng and elsewhere
  • Immigration: Government programs to address illegal immigration

The party’s Gauteng provincial chairperson said ActionSA fielded candidates in all 526 Gauteng wards, including first-time contests in Mogale City, Merafong, Emfuleni, Lesedi and Midvaal, calling the results a ‘deciding factor’ in future coalition governments.
