Words: Betha Madhomu/African Insider
Gauteng residents are facing another week of sweltering conditions, with temperatures forecast to climb to 34°C in Pretoria and 32°C in Johannesburg as the heatwave continues across the province.
According to Gauteng Weather, temperatures will remain well above average throughout the week, despite the possibility of isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in some areas.
The mercury is expected to rise steadily, with Johannesburg forecast to record highs of 27°C on Monday and Tuesday before reaching 30°C on Wednesday, 31°C on Thursday and 32°C on Friday.

Pretoria is expected to experience even hotter conditions, with temperatures climbing from 28°C on Monday to 29°C on Tuesday, before reaching 32°C on Wednesday, 33°C on Thursday and a scorching 34°C on Friday.
Although increased cloud cover and isolated thunderstorms could offer temporary relief, forecasters warn that the heat will continue to dominate the weather pattern over the coming days.
Temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C from Wednesday onwards, while windy conditions forecast for Thursday and Friday could increase the risk of veld fires, particularly in dry areas.

Residents have been urged to take precautions by staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day and checking on vulnerable people, including children, elderly residents and those with underlying health conditions.
Employers and outdoor workers have also been encouraged to take measures to minimise exposure to the extreme heat.
With little sustained relief expected, Gauteng residents should prepare for several more days of hot and uncomfortable weather.
