Gauteng set for dry, sunny winter weekend, says SAWS
Gauteng residents can expect a dry, settled winter weekend with cool mornings and mild afternoons, the South African Weather Service (Saws) says.
Clear skies dominate much of the weekend
Saws forecasts that both Pretoria and Johannesburg will see mainly clear conditions, with only some partly cloudy spells at times. The weather service indicates no rainfall for the two cities over the weekend.
Pretoria: cool start, warm afternoon
In Pretoria, Saturday will begin cool, with temperatures around 13°C in the early hours before reaching a high of 24°C that afternoon. The forecast shows clear skies at 2am, partly cloudy conditions by 8am, and clear skies again by 2pm.
Saws gives Pretoria a minimum temperature of 10°C on Saturday and a maximum of 24°C. Humidity is expected to fall from 50% in the morning to 25% during the afternoon, rising slightly in the evening. The forecast lists
“Rain Amount: 0 mm”
and
“Rain Probability: 0%”
for the city.
Sunday in Pretoria is expected to remain stable, with partly cloudy conditions forecast for the morning and evening and temperatures ranging from a minimum of 11°C to a maximum of 24°C.
Johannesburg: mild afternoons, no rain
Johannesburg is also expected to stay dry. Saturday will start mostly clear, become partly cloudy in the morning and clear again in the afternoon, with temperatures between a minimum of 10°C and a maximum of 21°C. The forecast notes the temperature reaching 21°C at 2pm under clear skies and humidity dropping to 25%.
On Sunday Johannesburg should see partly cloudy conditions throughout the day, with temperatures from 11°C to 21°C and no rain expected.
What this means for residents
With no rain forecast and comfortably mild afternoons across Gauteng, residents can plan outdoor activities without expecting wet weather over the weekend, according to Saws.
