Thuso Mbedu Joins Star-Studded Cast in “Children of Blood and Bone” Movie

South African actress Thuso Mbedu has been announced as part of the lead cast in the upcoming movie adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, Children of Blood and Bone. The Paramount Pictures film, set to release in cinemas on January 15, 2027, will see Mbedu take on the role of Zelie, a young woman in a fantasy African kingdom.
Mbedu joins a talented ensemble, which includes Hollywood heavyweights such as Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, and Tosin Cole. In Children of Blood and Bone, Mbedu’s character, Zelie, embarks on a perilous journey to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people by the cruel King Saran. The story follows Zelie and her older brother, Tzain (played by Cole), as they form an unlikely alliance with the king’s children, Princess Amari (Stenberg) and Prince Inan (Idris), to fight back against his brutal regime.
Mbedu shared her excitement with her fans on Instagram, posting pictures of herself in character as Zelie. She revealed that she was introduced to Children of Blood and Bone in 2019 and considered it one of the best gifts she received. Mbedu also shared a personal moment, explaining that she had boldly asked God for the opportunity to lead the story, and now, with this role, her wish has come true.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Children of Blood and Bone, as it promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally gripping tale, with Mbedu’s performance expected to shine alongside her accomplished co-stars.
