Petrol set to rise in June as diesel eases here’s what drivers may pay

on

Petrol looks set for another sharp increase from Wednesday, while diesel is expected to fall significantly, according to IOL (Independent Online).

Projected changes

According to IOL (Independent Online), the latest available data implies petrol prices are likely to increase by around R1.05 per litre as temporary fuel tax relief measures are wound down. IOL says diesel could fall by between R2.79 per litre for 50ppm and R3.60 per litre for 500ppm.

Possible retail and wholesale levels

IOL (Independent Online) reports that if these predictions materialise, 95 unleaded petrol could rise to around R26.81 at the coast and R27.68 in Gauteng from June 3.

The outlet adds that the wholesale price of diesel 500ppm could fall to around R27.69 in the inland regions.

What could affect the adjustments

IOL (Independent Online) notes the Slate Levy a mechanism that compensates fuel companies for price fluctuations in the preceding month could influence final adjustments, although it appears unlikely to reverse a petrol increase.

Context

The likely increase in petrol and drop in diesel follow several months of large movements in fuel costs driven by international and local factors, IOL says. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources will announce the official June adjustments early this week, the outlet reports.
