EFF Hits Back at DA Over Resignation of Tshwane Governance Officer

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Tshwane have slammed the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) claims that former governance and support officer (GSO) Ashraf Adam resigned due to political attacks from the party.
DA caucus leader Cilliers Brink expressed concerns about the circumstances of Adam’s departure, warning that it could pave the way for the ANC, EFF, and ActionSA to push a cadre deployment strategy. This, he suggested, could put senior officials under pressure to leave their positions.
Adam’s resignation was noted in reports tabled at a Tshwane council meeting on Thursday, which proposed appointing an acting GSO and advertising the vacant position.
Brink also pointed to allegations that Adam failed to disclose details of a mutual separation agreement with a former employer in 2011. He noted that since these allegations were never formally investigated by the council, there is no way to determine whether disciplinary action was warranted.
EFF Tshwane regional secretary and Health MMC Tshegofatso Mashabela dismissed Brink’s assertions, calling them baseless. She insisted that Adam’s resignation was not politically driven but rather a matter of integrity.
“His failure to disclose prior disciplinary issues with a former employer is a significant concern that warranted scrutiny. Instead of facing these allegations head-on, he chose to resign—an action that raises questions about his willingness to be transparent and accountable,” she said.
EFF regional leader Obakeng Ramabodu echoed this sentiment, accusing Brink of deflecting attention from the Auditor-General’s damning findings about the lack of leadership in Tshwane.
The EFF has previously targeted city manager Johann Mettler, accusing him of leaking confidential information to Brink. However, Brink has denied these claims, stating there is no evidence to support the accusation.
With both parties locked in yet another political clash, the controversy surrounding Adam’s resignation highlights the ongoing power struggle within Tshwane’s leadership.
