Ramaphosa reshuffles Cabinet after DA talks

Published

on

President Cyril Ramaphosa has reshaped parts of South Africa’s national executive following consultations with the Democratic Alliance (DA) within the Government of National Unity (GNU), confirming a series of ministerial and deputy ministerial changes affecting several key portfolios.

The announcement, outlined in a Presidency statement last  night, forms part of what officials describe as ongoing executive adjustments within the coalition arrangement, impacting Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Electricity and Energy, Higher Education, Water and Sanitation, and Trade, Industry and Competition.

In the update, Ramaphosa appointed Willem Aucamp as Minister of Agriculture, while David Maynier takes over Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, signalling a notable portfolio shift within the DA’s executive deployment.

At deputy level, DA leader John Steenhuisen has been appointed Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, while Alexandra Abrahams moves into Electricity and Energy, Jack Bloom takes up Water and Sanitation, and Yusuf Cassim steps into Higher Education.

The Presidency also confirmed the appointment of Dina Pule as Minister of Social Development, filling a vacancy left in the executive structure.

The reshuffle follows internal DA deployment changes submitted to the Presidency, with several positions realigned across ministries as part of the party’s representation in government.

The adjustments come following continued recalibration within the GNU framework, where coalition partners have had to negotiate representation in Cabinet since the formation of the unity government after the 2024 elections.
