Residents of Diepkloof defied the challenges of intense load shedding to witness the first-ever Miss Diepkloof Pageant on May 12. Ten finalists showcased their beauty and talent on stage at the Diepkloof Community Hall, surrounded by their supportive families and friends.

Hlamalani Mavasa, the founder and organiser of the Miss Diepkloof Pageant, expressed her satisfaction with overcoming the hurdles faced in preparing for the event and bringing the night to life for the contestants. The vision behind the pageant was to provide a platform for young girls in the area to showcase their modelling skills and pursue their passion for the industry.

The pageant aimed to steer participants away from negative influences and engage them in activities that would equip them with valuable experience for their future. Girls between the ages of 15 and 23 took to the stage, displaying their catwalk prowess and eloquence in public speaking as they responded to questions posed by guest judges Nomfundo Mercy Side and Miss Giyani Teen 2021, Palesa Ramothwala.

As the Miss Diepkloof Pageant becomes an annual event, parents are encouraged to collaborate with the organisers and ensure that the competition adheres to the necessary requirements for fairness. This year’s winner, Vanessa Bila (20), was crowned Miss Diepkloof, while Ntando Mbatha and Mosa Mahasa were named first and second princesses, respectively. In addition, Bonolo Lebudi received the title of Miss Social Butterfly.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Bila expressed her appreciation to the residents who voted for her, recognising the deserving qualities of her fellow contestants. The heartfelt moment was shared with her proud parents, who joined her on stage to celebrate her achievement.

The winners were rewarded with undisclosed cash prizes from event sponsors, Pick n Pay and Maria’s Shisanyama, adding to their joy and recognition for their remarkable performances.
