King Misuzulu urges Zulu nation to show restraint and compassion towards foreign nationals
According to IOL, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini appealed for peace and compassion towards foreign nationals amid rising tensions over migration, urging the Zulu nation to reject violence and vigilantism.
Call for calm at International Day of Yoga
The king made his remarks while addressing attendees at the 12th International Day of Yoga held at the Durban Amphitheatre on Sunday morning under the theme “Yoga For Anti-Ageing”, according to IOL.
“Let no blood be shed”
According to IOL, the king emphasised that no grievance justifies violence, saying that “no grievance, no matter the frustration, justifies shedding blood or assaulting individuals.”
“I’m asking you, Zulus, let no blood be shed. Do not hit these people. Suffering brought them here. Just as we suffer…”
According to IOL, the king also warned that the country did not look good in the rest of Africa and said: “We do not want anyone without papers in this country, because we also cannot go to their countries without papers.”
Appeal framed around migration and shared suffering
According to IOL, King Misuzulu framed migration as driven by people seeking a better life and asked his audience to refrain from inflicting further harm on those who have suffered. He told the crowd he had spoken to Phakel’umthakathi and Ngizwe (Mchunu) and reiterated that no one must be beaten, according to IOL.
Message and tone
The king linked his appeal to the peaceful symbolism of yoga, describing it as an international language representing peace and the nation, according to IOL. His message stressed restraint, compassion, and the rule of law as tensions around undocumented migration continue to draw attention in the province.
