Police in Lusikisiki are asking the public for help to trace 19-year-old Melanie Gunkel, who disappeared while on her way to school on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Last known movements

Gunkel, who lives in the Gunyeni locality in Ngobozana A/A, was last seen at about 7am while travelling to Lusikisiki Hillbrow High School, according to police.

What she was wearing

Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo said Gunkel was wearing her school uniform when she disappeared: a grey skirt and a navy jersey.

“Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Melanie Gunkel is urged to contact the head of the Lusikisiki Detective Service, Colonel Elam Makhamba, on 082 302 5118 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111,” Matyolo said.

Separate missing-person appeal in Mthatha

In a separate appeal across the Eastern Cape, Madeira police in Mthatha are seeking help locating 43-year-old Nkosinathi Tomose. Police said Tomose, who is originally from Cala and lives in Sandton, Johannesburg, travelled to Mthatha for work-related matters and arrived on July 14.

Tomose was last seen on July 16 at a private bed-and-breakfast in Norwood. Captain Matyolo said anyone with information about Tomose should contact Madeira police detective Captain Nombekana on 071 475 1885 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

Investigation status

Police in both areas have appealed to the community to come forward with any information that could assist their enquiries.
