Michael Jacobus Willemans, the alleged mastermind behind nationwide fraud and theft cases, is slated to enter his plea at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on August 28. Willemans, originally from Brakpan, faces eight charges each of fraud and theft.

The alleged fraudulent activities of Willemans, who had been on the run for a considerable period, came to a halt on January 9 when law enforcement apprehended him in 9th Road, Rynfield. The SAPS Trio-Tactic Unit, alongside Anti-Hijacking and Policing SA and CJ Investigators, worked collaboratively to capture him after receiving a tip-off about his location. They arrested him at a residence believed to belong to his girlfriend.

Willemans had reportedly defrauded and stolen from individuals while concealing his identity behind pseudonyms. His victims span various locations, including Boksburg North, Welkom, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and other areas. Particularly troubling is his alleged pattern of targeting single and elderly women on dating sites.

Remarkably, these criminal activities are said to have commenced a mere four months after Willemans’ release on parole for a previous theft conviction in 2017. As his case progresses, the court will determine the consequences he will face for these far-reaching allegations of fraud and theft.
