Hosted by Rand Park High School, the fundraiser drew participation from 48 students spanning Grades 11 and 12. These enthusiastic learners enthusiastically took to the stage, elegantly parading and donning costumes that aligned with the themes of iconic 80s, 90s, and 00s movies and showcasing their glamorous evening attire.

Notably, each participant was responsible for sourcing a sponsor to cover the entry fee, and the combined proceeds from this initiative and the ticket sales played a pivotal role in offsetting some of the costs associated with the school’s matric ball.

More than just a fundraiser, this annual event fosters learner confidence and provides senior students with a unique avenue for involvement within the school community. The festivities encompassed various elements, including dynamic dance performances, captivating individual stage acts, and the active engagement and applause of the audience, leaving an indelible mark on the participants and their families.

Merlene Spies, the esteemed branch owner of Figures Models Talent International in Bromhof, has consistently demonstrated her commitment by serving as a devoted sponsor and judge for the pageant. Assisted her were fellow judges Shanice Radhalal and Taylor da Costa, who have their roots in pageantry, modelling, and active participation in various community outreach endeavours.

Amid the celebratory ambience, School Principal Alan Wilke extended heartfelt congratulations to the accomplished winners, expressing gratitude to the dedicated participants, their supportive sponsors and parents, the discerning judges, and the diligent event organising team.

The crowning achievements of the evening were as follows:

  • Miss Rand Park: Elizabeth Maritz
  • Mr Rand Park: Matthew Pretorius
  • First runners-up: Gabriella Soares and Wandile Shezi
  • Second runners-up: Dakota Koch and Nicholas De Agrella
  • Mr. and Miss Photogenic: Kelland Barry and Keira Swarts
  • Mr. and Miss Personality: Tristan Smith and Sesni Abraha
  • Best themed costume: Gabriella Soares

The annual Mr. and Miss Rand Park fundraising pageant stands as an exemplar of both celebration and community engagement. Beyond its fundraising role, it is pivotal in nurturing learner confidence and offering senior students a distinctive platform for involvement. The event’s success was further enriched by the dedicated sponsorship and judging of Merlene Spies, supported by Shanice Radhalal and Taylor da Costa, in conjunction with the broader school community. The shared sense of achievement and recognition encompassed the diverse array of winners, each contributing their flair to this vibrant occasion.
