Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said the state would respond firmly to the recent murders, warning those responsible had “declared war on the state” and would face an uncompromising response. He urged South Africans “to remain calm but resolute” and said the state had the capacity to respond to ensure “good governance, accountability and justice prevail.”

Police have offered a R400 000 reward for information leading to arrests, and the DA has offered a R500 000 reward for information that leads to successful criminal prosecution of the murderer or murderers. The police also said Kempton Park would be placed under lockdown through Operation Shanela.
