SAPS intercept stolen Toyota Hilux and fake document at Beitbridge

Police at the Beitbridge Port of Entry arrested a 40-year-old Zimbabwean national on Sunday, August 23 after intercepting a white Toyota Hilux during routine vehicle profiling and searches at the departure checkpoint.

What happened at the border

Members stationed at the port stopped the vehicle at around 14:00 and carried out checks that raised concerns about the vehicle’s legitimacy. Officers also found a document submitted alongside the vehicle that was alleged to be fraudulent.

Vehicle seized and docket opened

The Toyota Hilux was seized and towed to the Musina police vehicle pound. The vehicle is valued at approximately R36 000. A docket has been opened for alleged possession of a fraudulent document and a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

Police response and border priorities

Limpopo provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers praised the officers involved, saying:

“Our members remain alert and committed to disrupting the movement of suspected stolen vehicles and fraudulent documents through our borders. We will continue strengthening our efforts to ensure that criminal elements are intercepted and brought before the courts.”

Police emphasised that vehicle profiling at the border remains a priority as they work to intercept stolen vehicles and fraudulent documentation before they cross into neighbouring countries.

Court appearance

The accused is due to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 25.
