It’s that time of year again! The rains are coming, and with them comes the risk of flooding. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are some tips from the City of Johannesburg to help you stay safe on the roads this rainy season.

1. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and avoid driving in heavy rain if possible. If you must drive, slow down and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination safely.

2. Beware of flooded roads. It only takes a few inches of water to float a car, so if you see water on the road, turn around and find another route.

3. Be extra careful at night or in low-visibility conditions. It’s more difficult to spot flooded roads in these conditions, so take your time and drive carefully.

4. If your car does start to flood, don’t panic! Turn off the engine immediately and get out of the car as quickly as possible. Once you’re safely out, call for help and wait for assistance to arrive.
