Today, the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is scheduled to visit the Matimba and Medupi Power Stations in Limpopo as part of his ongoing visits to all of Eskom’s power stations. The purpose of these visits is to engage with management, workers, and unions and to identify areas for improvement as reported by SA News.

In particular, the Minister has expressed concern about the performance of certain coal-fired power stations, such as Tutuka and Kusile, which have low energy availability factors (EAFs) due to breakdowns and underperformance.

With winter approaching and demand expected to rise significantly, the Minister urges all stakeholders to work together to address the electricity crisis and avoid higher load-shedding stages.

He has also called on South Africans to contribute to the solution by adopting energy-saving behaviours, such as switching off geysers, which could reduce demand by up to 4000MW.
