Warrant issued for Jub Jub after failure to appear at Germiston court

A warrant of arrest has been issued for musician and media personality Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, known as Jub Jub, after he failed to appear at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 24.

Jub Jub faces charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object likely to cause a person to believe it was a firearm. The charges relate to an incident on June 14 in Edenvale involving an e-hailing driver.

It is alleged that Jub Jub accused the e-hailing driver of being in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend after she was dropped at a residence in Edenvale, and that the matter escalated when Jub Jub allegedly forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, Jub Jub reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The e-hailing driver escaped unharmed and went to a nearby police station to report the matter.

Bail application and prior legal matters

After his arrest, Jub Jub brought an urgent application before the Johannesburg High Court raising concerns about the delay in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and seeking bail pending his first court appearance. The High Court granted the application on June 16 and ordered his release on R5,000 bail.

The report notes Jub Jub has a previous conviction from 2012 related to a crash that claimed four schoolchildren. It also states that in 2024, charges of rape, attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were withdrawn against him.
