The body of a missing woman was discovered discarded on the side of the road in Lombardy, east of Johannesburg, prompting Gauteng police to begin an urgent manhunt.

On Sunday, the woman, who was thought to be in her 30s, went missing. Her lifeless body was found hours later in the afternoon, half wrapped in a black garbage bag and dumped by a roadside.

The woman may have suffered a violent assault prior to her death, as evidenced by the obvious bruises on her body, according to Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

Before the body was dumped, witnesses said they saw a white VW Polo with tinted windows pull up to the scene. Anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen the car is being asked to come forward by the authorities.

Nevhuhulwi stated, “At this point, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.”

Although the motive for the murder is still unknown, the police have stated that every effort is being made to find the suspect.

The local community is in shock over this tragic event, and there are increasing calls for better safety protocols and speedier missing person investigations. Police have assured locals that they are dedicated to seeing that justice is done and are treating the case seriously.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the closest police station.
