Midrand woman arrested after boyfriend found stabbed to death

Midrand in shock after fatal stabbing
The Midrand community has been left reeling after police arrested a 22-year-old woman for the alleged murder of her boyfriend. The victim, 31-year-old Xichavo Ntsanwisi, was found dead in the early hours of Monday morning at his home in Colnbrook Estate, Noordwyk.
According to reports, Ntsanwisi sustained a stab wound to the upper chest near the neck. A knife with a yellow handle was discovered nearby. Paramedics from Netcare Ambulance rushed to the scene but were unable to save him, and he was declared dead on arrival.
Suspect named and taken into custody
The suspect has been identified as Jo-Ann Ntokoto Mabasa from Kremetart, Giyani, in Limpopo. Police confirmed that she was at the scene when they arrived and allegedly admitted to stabbing her boyfriend. She has since been taken into custody and is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of murder.
The South African Police Service has not yet shared details about what may have led to the altercation. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence while awaiting formal proceedings.
A community demanding answers
The killing has left residents of Midrand and beyond grappling with grief. Many took to social media under the hashtag #JusticeforXichavo to express shock, anger, and sadness. Friends and acquaintances described Ntsanwisi as someone with deep community ties, originally from Mhinga village near Malamulele. For them, the tragedy has not only claimed a life but also fractured the sense of safety in their community.
The case has become more than a local crime report. It has turned into a rallying point for people calling for justice and accountability in cases of intimate partner violence.
Violence in relationships under the spotlight
South Africa continues to battle alarmingly high levels of gender-based and relationship-linked violence. The Midrand case has revived difficult conversations about how quickly private disputes can spiral into irreversible tragedy. Advocacy groups often stress the need for early interventions, accessible support structures, and more proactive measures to address domestic conflict before it turns deadly.
While the investigation into Ntsanwisi’s death continues, the incident has already taken on a symbolic weight. For many, it represents not only the loss of a young man but also a reminder of the urgent need for solutions to curb relationship violence.
What happens next
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist the investigation. Mabasa is expected to make her first court appearance soon, where the charges will be formally heard.
Until then, the Midrand community remains united in grief, waiting for justice to take its course and hoping this case will push for greater awareness and stronger action against violence in South African homes.
