Volvo Issues Precautionary Alert for EX30 Owners Over Rare Battery Risk
Volvo Cars has identified a potential issue with high-voltage battery cells manufactured by a particular supplier on certain model year 2024-2026 EX30 Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance cars.
In rare instances, the battery may overheat when charged to a high level, which could in a worst-case scenario lead to a fire starting in the battery.
Safety is Volvo Cars highest priority, and while the number of reported incidents is very small – representing around 0.2% of the cars we have identified as potentially affected – and we have no reports of related personal injuries and no reports of any incidents in South Africa, we are treating it very seriously.
What should you do now?
We plan to initiate a recall as soon as possible to repair the affected vehicles. In the meantime, we are requesting that all affected owners limit their cars’ maximum charge level to 70%.
How do I limit the maximum charge?
1. Press the vehicle symbol in the bottom bar and go to Settings.
2. Go to Charging →Target battery level.
3. Set your charge level to maximum 70%.
We will be in contact with you to inform you on further updates. Kindly note that other models are not affected by this notice, and not all variants of EX30 are affected.
Your satisfaction and confidence with your Volvo is important to us. We apologise for the inconvenience this is likely to cause you, and appreciate your cooperation as we work to implement this important safety action as soon as possible.
