Milnerton gripped by fear after second triple murder in 48 hours
There are moments when a community falls silent. In Milnerton this week, that silence has been heavy.
Cape Town has been rocked by yet another triple murder, this time in Du Noon, marking the second such incident in the area in under 48 hours. For residents already grappling with fear and uncertainty, the back-to-back shootings have deepened anxiety across the district.
Three killed in Du Noon
According to Western Cape police, three people were shot and killed in the early hours of Monday morning, 23 February 2026, in the Ekuphumleni informal settlement in Du Noon.
Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that detectives from the Serious Violent Crimes Unit are pursuing several leads as part of the investigation.
Police reports indicate that two men and a woman were shot in front of a shack by unidentified gunmen, who then fled the scene. The motive remains unknown at this stage.
A manhunt has been launched as investigators work to piece together what happened and why.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or to submit tips through the MySAPS mobile application. Police have assured the public that all information will be handled confidentially.
Saturday night horror in Joe Slovo
The latest killings come just days after another triple murder in Freedom Way, Joe Slovo, also within the broader Milnerton district.
On Saturday evening, 21 February, at around 10.30pm, police discovered a silver Toyota Avanza riddled with bullet holes. Inside the vehicle were the bodies of two adult women, both declared dead at the scene. A few metres away, the body of a 36-year-old man was found.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said information from a family member indicated that the deceased man had previously been involved in the taxi industry and that one of the women was reportedly his girlfriend. The motive for that attack is also unknown, and no arrests have been made.
The case has been assigned to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Detectives for further investigation.
A community on edge
Milnerton is no stranger to crime headlines, but two triple murders within days have rattled even long-time residents. On social media, locals have expressed shock and frustration, with many calling for visible policing and quicker breakthroughs in violent crime cases.
Du Noon and Joe Slovo are densely populated communities, and incidents of this scale ripple far beyond the immediate victims. Schools, families, and small businesses all feel the impact when gun violence erupts in residential streets.
While investigators continue their work, the unanswered question remains the same in both cases: why?
For now, police are focusing on gathering information and tracking down suspects. Residents are being encouraged to assist in any way they can, even anonymously.
As Milnerton waits for answers, the sense of unease is unmistakable. Two scenes of gunfire in less than two days have left a suburb searching for reassurance and justice.
