Randburg prosecutor arrested in sexual assault scandal

A storm has hit the Randburg Magistrate’s Court as regional court prosecutor Dinesh Nandkisoor handed himself over to police on Monday, 23 March 2026, following serious allegations of sexual misconduct. He remains in custody as his case prepares to return to court for a bail hearing.

Allegations spanning years

The charges against Nandkisoor are deeply troubling. According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the alleged sexual assault dates back to 25 September 2025. The accused is facing multiple charges: sexual assault, sexual intimidation, two counts of corruption, and defeating the ends of justice.

The State alleges that the victim initially approached Nandkisoor while seeking legal assistance for her brother’s case at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. During a follow-up meeting, the prosecutor allegedly engaged in indecent conduct and attempted to coerce her into a sexual act. The following day, she reportedly sought help from a community leader, who accompanied her to confront Nandkisoor.

Denial and intimidation

The NPA spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, said that while Nandkisoor denied the allegations, he allegedly attempted to dissuade the victim from reporting the matter, even suggesting he could withdraw her brother’s case if she remained silent.

The case has been transferred to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court to avoid proximity to Randburg court staff and ensure impartial proceedings. The next court date for a formal bail application is scheduled for 30 March 2026, with the State planning to oppose bail.

Accountability under scrutiny

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has expressed concern over the incident. The Ministry has emphasized the need for accountability and pledged to monitor the case closely, underlining its commitment to maintaining public trust in the justice system.

This case has sparked wider discussion on social media, with many South Africans calling for transparency and swift justice, highlighting ongoing concerns about misconduct in positions of legal authority.
