AKA Murder Case Moves To Durban High Court As Trial Date Nears
More than two years after the shocking killing of rapper Kiernan Forbes, the case is finally edging closer to a full trial.
The murder case involving Forbes and his close friend Tebello Motsoane has now been officially transferred to the Durban High Court, marking a major turning point in one of the country’s most closely watched investigations.
A Case That Gripped South Africa
The fatal shooting took place in February 2023 on Florida Road in Durban, a busy nightlife strip known for its restaurants and late-night buzz. Forbes and Motsoane were gunned down outside a venue in what authorities believe was a carefully orchestrated attack.
The case quickly became a national talking point, not only because of Forbes’ status as one of South Africa’s biggest hip-hop stars, but also due to the brazenness of the killing in a public space.
For many South Africans, the tragedy highlighted growing concerns around safety in urban hotspots, especially in areas typically associated with leisure and nightlife.
Multiple Accused Now Facing Trial
At the centre of the case are brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, who are facing serious charges including double murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder.
They will not stand trial alone.
Five additional accused are expected to join them in the dock, namely Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Siyanda Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, and another individual also named Lindokuhle Ndimande.
In a move that speeds up the legal process, the accused recently abandoned their bail applications. This decision effectively cleared the way for the matter to proceed directly to the High Court.
A Coordinated Attack Under The Spotlight
Prosecutors are expected to build their case using a combination of forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and cellphone records.
Together, these elements are believed to form the backbone of the State’s argument that the shooting was not random, but a planned and coordinated hit.
This approach reflects how modern investigations in South Africa increasingly rely on digital trails and surveillance technology to piece together complex crimes.
What Happens Next
The next key date on the calendar is a pre-trial conference scheduled for 19 June. This step will set the stage for the main trial, which is expected to begin in July.
For the families of Forbes and Motsoane, and for fans who have followed the case closely, the move to the High Court signals that long-awaited answers may finally be within reach.
As the case enters this new phase, it carries more than just legal weight. It represents a moment of reckoning in a story that has lingered in the public consciousness since that February night in Durban.
